On June 6, Rhino plans to release Total: From Joy Division To New Order, a compilation of singles by the two groups from several decades ago. We’ll always prefer New Order’s Substance and Joy Division’s live BBC releases when it comes to compilations, but Total does offer something novel in “Hellbent,” and unreleased track from New Order’s ’90s period. That means more rock than their ’80s techno-pop heyday, complete withs some skronking guitar. It’s not an unearthed “Bizarre Love Triangle Pt.2,” but it’s still something fresh from one of our all-time favorite groups.
Part of the lore of the great Factory Records lies in the amazing recor art and packaging by Peter Saville. So it’s little surprise that a deluxe edition of Joy Division/New Order bassist Peter Hook’s memoir, The Haçienda: How Not To Run A Club, is being released with the collect, the serious collector, and the obsessive collector. …MORE

Freebase, the indie rock supergroup consisting of iconic bass players Peter Hook (Joy Division/New Order), Andy Rourke (The Smiths) and Mani (Stone Roses) have called it quits mere weeks before their five-years-in-the-making debut album hits the stores. In a far from amicable split, Mani took to Twitter to air his grievances (or at least talk some trash).
“Three things visible from space, Great Wall Of China, Peter Hook’s wallet stuffed with Ian Curtis’ blood money, Man City’s empty trophy cabinet!”
“I’ve actually got an ongoing career, so I don’t feel the need to exploit my past glories. I exist in the here and the now.”

We’ve written here before that the greatest music video of all time might just be New Order’s “Confusion.” The clip was shot as the band club-hops though New York’s infamous early’80s venues, including The Paradise Garage and The Funhouse. Apparently the UK four-some did more than party at these legendary clubs, as this ancient bootleg of an actual gig at the Paradise Garage confirms.
