If you’re like the umpteen million folks who will be traveling over the coming holidays, you might be wondering what to load into your MP3 player for the long trip. Here’s the top five most downloaded URB Podcast of 2012, which should give you ample beats for your travels.

5. Octave One – Live

The Burden brothers have been doing things their own way for 20 years, putting out seminal records on Transmat, Underground Resistance and their own legendary imprint, 430 West. It’s been Detroit love the entire way, naturally, even though the home base of Octave One has now switched over to another rich cultural center, Atlanta.

The premise still hasn’t changed; the Burdens are still putting out inspiring, indelible techno music that cannot be duplicated in the slightest. To celebrate the legacy of their long-standing career, Octave One released Revisited (Here, There, and Beyond), a remix retrospective of their classic tracks, carefully reimagined and revamped by artists from techno’s glory days (Luke Slater, Aril Brikha), to current representations of the genre (Sandwell District).

Today’s entry in our podcast series comes from one of the most lauded producers at the moment, Jon Convex. Initially one of the two that make up the unquestionably fantastic outfit Instra:mental (Boddika being his counterpart), the duo splintered off to do their own thing within the past couple of years and have been making informative and transcendental dance music under their own solo aliases. With Convex, he’s been busy on labels such as previously affiliated imprints Naked Lunch and Nonplus, as well as Martyn’s burgeoning label 3024. In addition to his work on 3024 (includingLied To Be Loved feat. dBridge), he’ll be busy with his own imprint, simply titled Convex Industries. With his unique, shifted take on dancefloor grooves and rhythmic notions, we’re more than happy to present Jon Convex’s URB podcast to you all. Check out the mix and tracklist after the jump.

It’s been a wild ride for TURRBOTAX residents Contakt and Mayster. While both producers have been part of running one of the most-lauded and eccentric monthly events in New York, they’ve also been hard at work making some serious bass-y business. Earlier in 2011, we were treated to Contakt’s debut release, Not Forgotten on the distinguished Local Action label. This time around on the all-encompassing Dutty Artz label, they bring us their newest output, Korak, which is a progressive stance on the sounds both Contakt and Mayster have been experiencing sonically on the floor as well as their own environments. Strong from start to finish, the EP is only a teaser of what’s to come from each producer. To celebrate its release –along with giving them an excuse to jam out some exclusive cuts– they’ve given URB a mix exclusive, thanks in big part to the lovely people at Dutty Artz. Peep the mix and tracklist down below.
