Make LOVE in NYC Aug 2nd

Looking for some action this Summer, we got something to scratch that. Aug 2nd it’s going down at Love, so if your in town don’t miss out. Presented by Primetime the shindig is graced by none other than Ewan Pearson, the man known as Maas, World of Apples, and more recently Partial Arts. Digging Graveyard

The throwback ’70s rock thing has been in style for the last few years, with bands like Wolfmother making it big by harnessing the sounds of Zeppelin and Sabbath. While this kind of retro stoner rock can sound a bit tired and calculated, the soulful, bluesy rock conjured up by Sweden’s Graveyard seems so genuine, it’s hard to believe the band was formed in ‘06 and not ‘76.
Graveyard’s self titled debut (Tee Pee Records) rocks hard from start to finish, calling upon the classic, swinging sound of Cream on tracks like ‘Blue Soul’ and the proto-metal of Deep Purple on ‘Evil Ways.’ As with all good classic rock, Graveyard’s solos wail over thundering yet groovy riffs, but what really sets the band apart from other bands drawing upon the same influences is lead singer Joakim …

Joakim & the Ectoplasmic Band Live Review: Empty Bottle, Chicago 4.29.07

The setting seemed all wrong for Tigersushi founder Joakim as he brought his Ectoplasmic Band to Chicago Sunday night. Sure they delivered on the eclectic promise of his Monsters & Silly Songs, and while few were moving to the beat, not everyone in the light crowd seemed more focused on Monday morning than the show at hand.

The band did their stuff quite well and Joakim kept extremely busy as he worked his way between a laptop, a Korg synth, a guitar and whatever else he had up there on a table that looked to be nothing more than a championship-sized tangle of wires and plugs. Still, the expansive dance rock sound seemed like it have been received much better by the hordes in a setting like Coachella than the agreeable confines of the Empty Bottle.
