The Foreign Exchange – Authenticity (Review) (Review)

Foreign Exchange

Authenticity

Released by The Foreign Exchange Music

The new FE album "Authenticity" clocks in at a polished eleven tracks, with the memorable "Everything must go” starting off with a synthesizer melody that hypnotizes from start to finish. "This city ain't the same without you" utilizes fan favorite Yazarah's vocals. MTV picking up "The Ballad of Purple St. James’”  first video for rotation is as just a much a testament to the FE+ label, as is the newest tight knit ZO!  full length. Nicolay's solo catalog continues to develop over time, and "Don't Wait" provides the proof Darrien Brockington's eventual solo album is long deserved. I have no doubt we'll see a rise in notoriety of all of the artists in the collective in the not so distant future.

Underworld Live on Fallon “Always Loved A Film” (Video)

Try to make a list of classic electronic music performance on television and you’ll be hard press to think of, um…any? The result is a pretty intense version of “Always Loved A Film” on Fallon last night, with Rick Smith putting up some backing vocals to give the camera something to cut to besides Karl Hyde’s hyper-squirmy dance moves. So while it totally worked, we do have to wonder if at any point it was discussed having house band The Roots join in.

Stream New Roots Album ‘How I Got Over’ (MP3)

When The Roots decided to grow deeper, er, roots last year by setting up camp has Jimmy Fallon’s house band, ?uestlove promised us that there’d still be time for the long-running crew to keep delivering their own music to the masses. The first example of this promise, How I Got Over, is streaming over at MySpace today, with the proper release hitting stores tomorrow. We’re only a few cuts in, but it’s definitely a more mellow and textured Roots than what we’ve heard on their last few albums. Perfect hip-hop for a June gloom morning like this.

The Roots ft. John Legend “The Fire” (MP3)

With the near constant influx of collaborations from The Roots via their daily work on Jimmy Fallon, we sometimes forget that the crew from Philly have their own album coming out in just 11 days. “The Fire” is the third cut we’re hearing from How I Got Over, this one featuring John Legend, which certainly gives the song a little more pop potential. But the fact is, with nine albums, thier own fest in Philly and an innovative television residency, ?uestlove and Co. “got over” a long time ago.
