Jimmy Edgar Exclusive Mix + Interview (Podcast)

JIMMY EDGAR
Exclusive Mix + Interview

There’s certain artists that capture an essence that’s wholly stimulating to a dancefloor; Jimmy Edgar is one of those artists that provides a combination of intellectual and auditory stimulation. Since the days of his releases on WARP and Merck, the now-Berlin-based producer has been pounding out his own brand of interstital and sensual grooves, attracting crowds that are hungry for next-level jaunts about the unknown realms of their strangest desires. Edgar is a master at accessing a dancefloor’s core values and cascading his sound with a confidence that’s truly his own. Currently, his single on Hotflush, “This One’s For The Children” is an retro-futuristic take on 80s electro, draped in velvet and spacesuits. Yeah, it’s that good. It’s only a teaser for his forthcoming LP on the label, entitled Majenta (out in early May). Jimmy took the time to speak to URB about how his creative process has thrived due to his move to Berlin, as well as providing us with a mix that’s a throwback response to his good buddy Machinedrum’s URB podcast. Check out the interview and mix after the jump.

Official Video: Emika – ‘Hit Me’ feat. Jimmy Edgar (Video)

Single '3 Hours' to be released February 13th on Ninjatune

Just unveiled yesterday, Hit Me takes the originally haunting opener 3 Hours from Emika’s debut album (released October 2011 on NinjaTune) and, with Jimmy Edgar’s touch, gets a lot more dancefloor-friendly. The track will accompany 3 Hours on a single of the same name, to be released February 13th.

Emika explains, “3 Hours is my original. Hit Me features Jimmy Edgar, his voice, singing, musical style/twist and sound signature. He worked on Hit Me on his own using my vocal also and transformed it into a suitably challenging pop song. Together they make a package which pokes fun at ‘mainstream’ and ‘underground’ music. For me, both these worlds …

Berlin Festival Preview

With it’s facinating 20th century history and and 21st century reputation as a serious party destination, pretty much every week in Berlin is music week. But Berlin Music Week raises the stakes higher, with dozens of events popping off between now and the weekend. The biggest is undoubtedly Berlin Festival, which crashes the massive Templehoff airport (the site of the infamous Berlin Airlift) this Friday and Saturday evening before moving to Arena Club in nearby Kreuzberg for the sort of all-night party the city is legendary for.

Here’s the five acts we plan not to miss:

Jimmy Edgar & Luke Vibert :: “Disco” (MP3)

Two generations of WARP Records producers—’90s veteran Luke Vibert and ’00s sensation Jimmy Edgar have collaborated on the new compilation, Universus Vol. II, coming out on Circutree Records. The tune, “Disco,” offers a sample-heavy twisting of ’80s boogie synths and squarewave bass that sound like they should be played on an interstellar party boat.
