Ski Beatz
24 Hour Karate School
24 HOUR KARATE SCHOOL TEASER from Creative Control on Vimeo.
Dame’s crew is at it again with a flick to hype up Ski Beatz’s 24 Hour Karate School. The song featured in the video by Mos Def and Ski is available here. The link is still up so get it while supplies last. Additionally a video for “We Can Do It Big” already dropped and that song will be on the tape as well. The guest list is pretty heavy on this one (peep the tags) and Ski Beatz is no slouch behind the boards. That’s enough to mark my calender for its release on February 15th.

My man Alex sent me this. Elite, the producer behind J.Cole’s Heartache, Jadakiss and Styles P’s Shootouts, Joe Budden’s Fight Muzik, and many more is now coming with his own mixtape titled The Groundwork, due out early January. The mixtape will feature exclusive music from J.Cole and DMX, as well the instrumentals to his more well known records. Below is a link to the trailer as well as the backcover and tracklisting to the tape.

Let’s face it, this cross-genre mash-up started back with Aerosmith and Run DMC (”Walk This Way”) and has been attempted every so often since, often providing less than stellar results. Typically, these types of collaborations come across as forced, lacking chemistry, and representing yet another gimmick pushed onto consumers to create a spark in sales. This isn’t to say that cross-genre collaborations are an avoidable concept, but there has not been a rap/rock collaborative project that really represented the best of both worlds. During this holiday season, music fans will have one more thing to be thankful for: a rap/rock project featuring some of the best from both genres. BlakRoc, a collaborative effort between Akron, Ohio’s Black Keys and some of hip-hop’s best (such as Mos Def, Q Tip, Pharoahe Monch, RZA, ODB and Ludacris). Recently, URB.COM caught up with the man between the drum kit, Patrick Carney, to find out how this project came together, what it is like working with hip-hop legends, as well as talking about some of their favorite hip-hop tracks.
Creative Control presents us with a sneak peak into director Michael Eaton Sterling’s upcoming film project, set in Dame Dash’s Manhattan art gallery/studio space, DD172. The video features The Cool Kids and Mos Def, among others, alerting us to more great collabs emerging from within Dash’s studio space, which was home to the BlakRoc Project. That particular venture brought us music from The Black Keys, joined by the likes of Mos Def, RZA, Raekwon, Jim Jones, Pharoahe Monche, and Q-Tip. A total of 11 artists got together to record the album in 11 days, producing one of the more interesting projects to come along recently. No doubt, this is sure to be just as enticing:
