9th Wonder: Producer/Dream Merchant

Love him or hate him, you've gotta love 9th Wonder's consistency. The North Carolina-born and bred producer has made a name for himself as the former 3rd member of the Durham collective Little Brother, and producer of cuts for the likes of Jay-Z, Destiny's Child, and Mary J. Blige.

If you're not familiar with 9th, one thing you've got to know is that he's a hip-hop head that loves hip-hop for the love of hip-hop. His productions reflect that, as they capture the sound of that Large Pro/Pete Rock era of the genre. 9th recently explained to XXL where he's going with his new album The Dream Merchant, vol. 2:

Free Chicago Fest Brings Out Underground Rap OGs

Quite possibly the best FREE hip-hop show mini-fest the Midwest has seen this side of the millenium, Microsoft wrangled to Union Park performances by Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Blackstar (!!), Jean Grae, Bilal, Little Brother and Qualo as Chicago's hottest rising stars (Cool Kids, Mano, Hollywood Holt) juked it out on the sidelines. There's never been a better soundtrack to indulge in much libation AND wolf down tasty BBQ'd eats. Fun was had by all.

Better late than never

Murs and Slug released their second Felt album Felt 2: A Tribute to Lisa Bonet about 18 months back. On Monday, just 587 days after it was first released as a single, the video for “Early Mornin' Tony.” will be airing on MTVU. This is the first video from the disc.

Not quite sure what took so long, but a post on the duo's MySpace blog says the video features Slug, Murs, Ant and still shots from the Jim Mahfood drawn comic that came with the album. The video will be up on the official Rhymesayers YouTube page on Tuesday.
