Willie Evans Jr. – Introducin’ (Video)

Willie Evans Jr. continues to push his “Introducin‘” full length album released via Sucio Smash’s High Water Music. The Florida native, MC/Producer, released one of the strongest hip hop albums of the year…although severely slept on. Today marks the first official music video for the title/album track “Introducin‘.”

The video was directed by Mark Carranceja for Noisemaker Media and features cameos from Pharoahe Monch and Jean Grae.

Blue Sky Black Death – NOIR (Review)

Blue Sky Black Death

NOIR

Released by Fake Four Inc.

Wielding the coolest name in contemporary music this side of Goblin Cock, the production duo Blue Sky Black Death have upped the ante with their second entirely instrumental affair NOIR. Producers Kingston and Young God rose to indie rap prominence from the intricate, soulful beats they helmed for the likes of Jean Grae and Wu Tang affiliate Hell Razah. While 2008’s Late Night Cinema proved they have the chops to excel without emcees filling in the blanks, the new record NOIR takes that idea and explodes from your shitty stock speakers like a solar flare. From the breezy atmospherics of the opener “Our Hearts Of Ruin” to the downtempo contemplation of “In The Quiet Absence Of God,” BSBD excels at telling stories without words, save for a well-placed sample here and there.

Talib Kweli, Gutter Rainbows (Review)

Talib Kweli

Gutter Rainbows

Released by Javotti Media/3D/Blacksmith

Turn-of-the-year releases are generally greeted with a semi-yawn. With the dust of a phenomenal music year still settling, industry trailblazer Talib Kweli has set his sites on the tricky first quarter burn. His first album free from the constraints of any label directives but his own, Talib seems to be coasting just a bit on this cut-and-paste session. As in, from a pure musical standpoint, outside of a few of repeat-worthy tracks, Gutter Rainbows, is no cure for your current cabin fever.
