Hear M83 Remix Of Daft Punk From TRON (MP3)

Despite some not so nice words from Busy P, the TRON: R3conf1gur3d remixes are coming fast and furious now. KCRW has the exclusive remix of “Fall” by M83 and Big Black Delta, hand-selected by the stations music director and TRON: Legacy music supervisor Jason Bentley. Here’s what Bentley said about the remix:

M83’s remix of Daft Punk’s TRON: Legacy score is a brilliant interpretation of the  scene where Kevin Flynn and his son Sam, along with Qorra, are hurtling toward what seems a certain demise in a runaway elevator shaft. It’s a pretty manic situation on screen, and Daft Punk’s music understandably has a panicked urgency.

One of the reasons I like this remix so much is that M83, and his collaborator Big Black Delta, are able to control the gathering …

Moby, TCM, Shepard Fairey Fight Prop 8

With the 2010 elections a distant memory, one issue that has seemingly fallen out of public view is Prop 8, the anti-gay marriage act that passed in California on the same ballot that we elected the first black president (ironic). But the fight for marriage equality isn’t over, as even our man Obama has softened his stance on the issue by declaring part of DOMA unconstitutional.

Prop 8 itself is seemingly on it’s last leg. A Federal District Court judge ruled the act unconsitutional this past August, although the ruling is pending appeal. In the meantime, Moveon.org’s Civic Action and Courage campaign is helping to keep up the pressure to fight Prop 8 with Dance For Equality, an event this Wednesday featuring a myriad of stars from the …

Hear Daft Punk TRON On KCRW

Last weekend, Los Angeles public radio powerhouse KCRW hosted a special conversation and listening session between music director Jason Bentley and TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski. Portions of the conversation will be played on KCRW this morning at 10am PST on Morning Becomes Eclectic—but the ENITRE session, which includes five new tracks from Daft Punks soundtrack, will start streaming on KCRW.com at 9AM PST. That means you don’t have to be some overpaid music consultant driving his entry-level BMW to a creative services office in Santa Monica to hear these tunes. Just any old schmuck with broadband will do.

Daft Punk – Tron: Legacy Original Soundtrack (Preview)

Being a huge fan of the original TRON (1982), I grew skeptical when Disney announced they would be revisiting the world of TRON in an updated sequel reboot simply because I found the original film near perfect (plus, no one wants a formative filmic experience from childhood messed with). With an orchestral score by the legendary musician Wendy Carlos, the original film resonated with my budding technophilia at a critical moment in my childhood (I was about 7 years old when I first saw the film). The music became a critical part of what made the film particularly memorable, being intrinsically connected to the visual design of the movie. Disney, I thought, had crafted a beautiful and memorable picture, a beautiful example of the possibilities of the marriage between storytelling and technology.  1982’s TRON was a piece of art, a …

Danger Mouse & David Lynch Rare On-Air Interview (Video)

A couple days ago, KCRW music director Jason Bentley sat down on the air with super-producer Danger Mouse and legendary filmmaker David Lynch to talk about their finally released project, Dark Night of the Soul. DM in particular is surprisingly talkative. Worth it just to watch Danger Mouse call Lynch a “crazy old man.” Less comical but equally compelling is the discussion of Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse, the recently departed third wheel of this project.
