LAst month, URB and Jarritos—along with some of LA’s finest graphic designers and street artists—judged the Jarrito’s Flavor City competition, that asked readers to submit their own Jarrito’s advertisment.
The winner of the content was San Diego student Oscar Meza, whose El Lucharritos evokes the Mexican heritage of Jarritos soda by depicting a masked wrestler.
Here’s what Oscar had to say when he found out he won:
“What inspired my piece started off as some sketches on a pad. Being that Jarritos was founded in Mexico, I wanted my illustration to reflect that authenticity. It almost felt obvious to incorporate a Luchador. I wasn’t sure who I was drawing at the time; but ironically, some of my friends said that the character kind of looked like me.”
