With Earth Day (4/22) here, the question as to how the music industry can and has gone green is important. We’ve experienced concerts with environmental initiatives, album artwork printed with vegan dyes, soft packs instead of jeweled CD cases, artist contributions made to organizations, press releases with philanthropic undertones, but has the music industry as a whole gone green? The Good Vibrations Festival is a yearly week long festival, February 12th-21st, that takes place during Australia’s summer in the following cities: Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth. The artists for this years show were carefully handpicked and notably varied across the spectrum, ensuring a good time for a diverse crowd of all ages; where old school met its new school counterpart. This years festival was host to The Killers, Basement Jaxx, Armand Van Helden, Gossip, Salt-N-Pepa, Friendly Fries, Busta Rhymes, Z-Trip, Kid Cudi, Naughty By Nature, Plump DJs, Gym Class Heroes, Chase and Status, Craze, Dave Seaman, Chuckie, Art vs. Science, BlueJuice, Spinderella, Bass Kleph, Sam Obernik, KillaQueenz & Sydney Local Artists, all hosted my SlimKid3.
Creator of GVF, Justin Hemmes, made sure that there was never a dull moment for the concert goers or more honestly labeled – addicts of good music.The festival took place from early afternoon to late evening providing Aussies and tourists alike with an entire day filled with musical acts housed under five different tents, good food, and of course good drink! LA/NY based sneaker company FLIGHT CLUB and Environmental lifestyle marketing company GREEN JAR have teamed up to COLLECT worn sneakers from some of the NBA’s most environmentally conscious teams in an effort to recycle product that would otherwise be disposed of as material waste. Mission “COLLECT” has thus far received the most generous and notable donations of used practice sneakers (worn sparingly) from the LOS ANGELES LAKERS (which includes a pair from none other than Kobe Bryant/Vivo) and the GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS. All sneakers are currently being donated to Soles 4 Souls Haiti shoe project.
