Shafiq Husayn (SA-RA) Band Rehearsal and KXLU Interview (Video)

The good folks at Beats + Crates shot Shafiq Husayn during a recent band rehearsal for an upcoming show in Los Angles on December 22nd. The show features live performances from Bilal, Shafiq Husayn w/ Om’Mas Keith (SA-RA), Exile + DJ Day ft. Blu, and Milosh, hosted by Pharoahe Monch, w/ DJ sets from J Rocc, Daedelus, and Kutmah. Intertwined w/ the rehearsal footage is Shafiq Husayn and his recent interview at KXLU, talking about his recent release “Shafiq En’ A-Free-Ka,” out now on Plug Research.

Stones Throw Podcast 52 Second Hand Sureshots (Video & MP3)

This is an extension of the Secondhand Sureshots project, a J.Rocc mixtape made up of as many of the reject vinyl as he could manage. Given the working material, the results are impressive. Everyone who has ever flipped through a dollar bin might think twice the next time they pass up those multiple copies of Loggins & Messina, Hotel California, Linda Ronstadt in roller skates, and all those anonymous classical records after hearing what can be done with them.

J. Rocc has teamed up with the Jazzman label to drop some serious musical junkets.  Reminicent of the the Madlib/Blue Note Collaboration this album is set to give a new spin to the old funk and sould tracks you don’t have the time to dig for. Jazzman’s back catalogue of 200+ classic funk & soul tracks must have been a fantastic free for all for J.
