J. Cole South By South Next Teaser! (Video)

J. Cole South By South Next Teaser from Budge Rodriguez on Vimeo.

The first ever official South By South Next showcase was super duper OFFICIAL.  URB branded these artists “Next”, and they certainly proved why…

So, while I’m busy getting all this music/media/viral goodness ready for the masses, I thought I’d serve y’all with a little teaser clip of J. Cole’s performance.

Stay tuned for LOTS more coverage, and don’t forget to keep checkin SouthBySouthNext.com for all things South By South Next!

J. Cole @ South By South Next

So, the first ever South By South Next Showcase was definitely off the richter scale.  J. Cole (above) smashed it.  Freddie “Gangsta” Gibbs, destroyed it.  Yelawolf tore it down, and URB served fans out in Austin a real showcase  of “NEXT” generation talent.

I most definitely have to send a major shout out to our wonderful promoters Fadia Kader and Leaders of the New Cool.  Yall are some real hustlers. Also must give major appreciation to the brands that supported our efforts, including Blue Microphones, Soul Rebel New York, Mindzai Printing, ComeUpKids.com, Xtrovertd Media, and last but not least, FreestyleMadness.com whose eleventh hour support enabled us to extend the time for our loaded event.

Stay tuned, media flood forthcoming…

Double Whammy: Wu-Tang Massacre Alternate Cover + The Source Cover

In case you missed it, the upcoming Wu-Massacre album, due March 30th, will feature three collectors’ editions, and the first two we have seen–along with the plain old cover. And what is a new record release without some love in the magazines? Exactly. So here is the trio on the newest cover of The Source, and there is an alternate cover (enough!) with J. Cole. Without further ado, all the images are after the jump.

Here’s Your XXL Freshmen 10 Cover

XXL’s (nearly) annual freshmen issue will hit newsstands March 16th. Out of all the intro vids I’d have to say Fashawn’s, Jay Rock’s, Nipsey Hussle’s and Freddie Gibbs’s verses were the best. Also notice how there aren’t any New York rappers in the building. Not to start trouble but it’s interesting to see a magazine like XXL see the future of rap in every region outside of it’s birthplace. Anyway it’s not a big deal in my eyes.  There’s no need to get too upset over someone else’s opinion right? Pic jacked from OS.

One Neck, Two Chains Interviews J. Cole (Video)

J. Cole sheds some light on his recent studio session with Pharrell for his upcoming album. Then the interviewer took the convo to a totally different tangent as he picked his brain on his favorite NBA players and go to moves on the court. It was an interesting change of pace but I kind of wanted to hear more about the LP. At any rate it’s good to hear J. Cole putting in work for his anticipated debut effort.

Drake x Complex Video

You know you’re a star when people offer you their puppies or a girl is having a very audible conniption fit. Congrats. This behind the scenes video of Drake’s “legendary” cover of the upcoming Feb/March issue of Complex is a uproariously funny (hard to count the number of girls buggin’ out) and the only calm person is Drake himself. I know we like to knock him, but his bravado is part of his charm and it sounds like he actually has a good head on his shoulders.

A little excerpt::

You feel like you’re at the finish line?

Drake: I’m at the starting line. Those guys are at home, putting on their tracksuits, getting ready to make their attack. When J. Cole gets it super-right, I think he’s gonna have a place as a Nas-type …
