HEAR New Wu-Tang Clan :: “Six Directions of Boxing” (MP3)

Wu-Tang Clan mastermind RZA is preparing for his big screen debut as writer/director/actor in the upcoming Quinten Tarantino-produced kung-fu flick The Man with the Iron Fists. And as one would suspect, the soundtrack features an impressive list of hip-hop luminaries, including Kanye WestPharoahe Monch, Pusha T and Wu-Tang members Ghostface Killah and Method Man.

It also features a new Wu-Tang track, “Six Directions of Boxing,” which was produced by Frank Dukes and features almost the entire Clan—U-God, Ghostface Killah, GZA, Masta Killa, Cappadonna, and Inspectah Deck. Check out the tune here, and after the jump watch an interview with RZA where he talks about the potential for a final Wu-Tang album to mark the group’s 20th anniversary next year.

@Mphazes remixes “The Raw” @TheRealSaigon @TheRealBekay @INSpectahDECKWU (Video & MP3)

I remember when i first hear Bekay on this and the big goal back then was to be #1 on the UGHH.com charts. This song made #1. To have Saigon and Inspektah Deck on a track was simply classic and the cuts were so raw, the track title seemed fitting.

M-Phazes drops the first official single for his remix album Phazed Out, which drops digitally on February 14th and on CD on February 28th through Coalmine Records. The single is a remix of Coalmine’s inaugural single “The Raw”, which features Saigon, Inspectah Deck and Bekay with an updated scratch chorus provided by DJ Boogie Blind (X-ecutioners, Pharoahe Monch). Phazed Out is a compilation of select singles taken from Coalmine’s catalog, remixed by the Aria Award winning M-Phazes and mixed/arranged by DJ Rhettmatic, …

Statik Selektah & Termanology, 1982 (Review)

Statik Selektah & Termanology

1982

Released by Showoff/ST./Brick

In 1982, hip-hop was still something of a cranky toddler poised to make serious noise. Yes, infamous biters The Sugarhill Gang were already on their second album (8th Wonder), breakdancing was catching on in the mainstream (thanks in part to the release of Thriller in November) and bare-knuckle hip-hoppers and breakers alike had anthems in Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five's "The Message" and Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock," respectively. But to put things in perspective, the fledgling MTV network was still favoring Dire Straits and The Go-Gos; hip-hop was ...

The Vault: 2Pac – Got My Mind Made Up (with Original Inspectah Deck Verse) (MP3)

Last week we posted an interview with Inspectah Deck in which he explains why his phantom ad libs can be heard at the end of 2Pac’s “Got My Mind Made Up.” The video intrigued me so I started nosing around the internets. A couple hours later I’d found what I was lookng for. Here is the version of Pac’s groundbreaking bi-coastal posse cut with Deck’s original verse still in tact at the end. Needless to say, he slaughtered it. There’s any number of possible reasons why Pac decided to remove the him from the song. We could spend all day considering them. I prefer to just enjoy the music. Props to DJ Luicidal.

This has been another edition of The Vault.

Inspectah Deck Talks About Tupac’s “Got My Mind Up” On Toca Tuesdays (Video)

Last week, Inspectah Deck stopped by Toca Tuesdays and while fielding phone calls, one attentive listener questioned why Deck’s adlibs were featured on Tupac’s song Got My Mind Up but he isn’t heard anywhere else.  Surprised, Deck broke it down for Tony Touch, the caller, and the listeners.
