Digitalism :: “2 Hearts” (MP3)

German dance music duo Digitalism are back, sorta. Those looking for more crowd surfing electro madness from the pair might be shocked to hear “2 Hearts” which sounds more like mainstage indie than Sahara tent techno (sorry, Coachella reference). It’s interesting to consider how easily exchangable the two sounds seem to be nowadays. But does it work?

Digitalism’s second album, I Love You, Dude, is out June 13.

Destroyer – Kaputt (Review)

Destroyer

Kaputt

Released by Merge

To listen to Kaputt, the ninth album New Pornographer Dan Bejar’s Destroyer project, means cozying up to the soft-rock saxophone that snakes throughout and binds songs to one another. The rubberized basslines and shimmers of guitar also crib from a musical cannon that is easily processed into Muzak, yet there’s more here than it first seems. Sneaky rhythms slide into place beneath the more overt and polished sounds while the dense vocal musings from Bejar and his co-conspirators are set out front, dangling and drawing in the focus. Yet ...

Stereolab – Not Music (Review)

Stereolab

Not Music

Released by Drag City / Duophonic

London-based experimental, electronic, post-rock and pop music outfit Stereolab return to marketplace with a brilliant collection, Not Music, an accompaniment to their underappreciated 2008 effort, Chemical Chords.  While it stands alone as a record in its own right, the tracks included on Not Music are cues left out from their last record; it follows the format of some previous b-sides and rarities collections they’ve put out such as Fab Four Suture, Oscillations from the Anti-Sun and the Switched On series.  Not Music is perhaps not as cohesive as Chemical ...
