Tart-y Party Secrets Revealed, and this week’s WBDYTYI.

This past weekend marked my return to the Hanger Bar on East 3rd street. I brought my favorite tracks from the UK excursion, as well as a newfound love for the “What Band Do You Think YOU’RE In” game. Amazingly enough, one can play the game while shooting pool at HB. So it goes when a Friday night party attracts disgruntled locals (aka, starving musicians of the E.Vill.) and the women who love to grind em.

So here we are, a lil guide to my favorite singles of the moment:

It's easy to hate The Horrors'with their corny-ass goth posing and Bud Cort haircuts'but Strange House is an undeniably good record. The ghosts of drum & bass are hidden in the runaway propulsion of these songs: almost as if Aphex Twin's Come to Daddy was remade by a bunch of dandy rock guys with a Farfisa organ. Shiny Hairy People

Exciting news on the production front: maverick video director Mark Romanek (nine inch nails, Madonna, Fiona Apple) has been hired to take on The Wolf Man at Universal. Se7en screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker wrote the script (my take on it after the jump) and Benicio del Toro stars.

Forgive a personal side note here: Both Romanek and Walker are two of the genuinely good people in Hollywood. Not only do they each have individually creative voices – Romanek dark and tragically beautiful, Walker dark and, well, hopeless – but I can speak from experience that they are down to earth talents who genuinely love film. Another reason to get all giddy about this project is that it's being produced by Universal's Mary Parent, another uniquely caring cineast who I know will shepherd …
