LA Weekly has an interview with the always interesting RZA about the recently released painting by the Art Imitates Life crew. The painting takes the classic images of Washington crossing the Delaware and inserts RZA, along with GZA and ODB, into the historical scene. We we amused with the painting, but we were also pretty sure we’d seen something like it before…

Salvador Santana knows a thing or two about music. Not just its past, present or even the direction in which it is going; rather, the keyboardist, vocalist, composer and songwriter knows, as an artist, how to steer clear of being boxed into any one genre and utilize his passion for music to its fullest potential. It was his father, Carlos Santana, who taught him at an early age to maximize his love of beautiful sounds. Sal’s musical background has led him to take a full-throttle approach toward what he feels will be pleasing to the ear; and his jazz, pop, Latin and hip-hop influences are apparent on his new album, Keyboard City.
DJ Mathematics first hooked up with the Clan in the mid-80s and worked his magic behind the scenes as producer until 1996. All that is about to change next month when the legendary producer delivers the 16 track compilation Return of the Wu & Friends. Collecting tracks from The W through 2008, Mathematics has all nine members and mixes classics with some fresh remixes, like ”Respect Mine” and “Clap,” the download we have for you. Mathematics has worked on everything from GZA’s Cold Chillin’ days to The W, 8 Diagrams, Ghostface’s Supreme Clientele…
While your parents may be fans of the other Santana, Salvador Santana is forging his own path in the musical landscape. With a debut album, Keyboard City, prepped for a February 2nd release date via Quannum/Various Music, Sal got a lot of love in the studio during the recording process–working with Money Mark, Bay Area MC Del, and GZA–and a lot of love via remixes of the title track.
GZA took “Keyboard City” for a spin with production chops going to The Hood Internet, and Dan Deacon re-worked the remix into a creation entirely his own. GZA and Dan have been interested in working with each other, and with GZA’a latest remix in-hand, Dan had a lot of fun messing around with the Vocoder lines.
