Mighty Mos Def x Shuggie Otis (VIDEO)

Mos keeps on tryin’ to change the genre. It works on occasion, but not consistently. And while Shuggie Otis deserves his due deference, both the guitarist and this emcee have provided some stronger moments elsewhere.

Chris Schlarb – ‘Threnody For Sharp Teeth and Freehold’ (STREAM)

LBC resident Chris Schlarb has been an ever expanding organism. The last Busdriver album featured the guitarist, he’s entwined in making a documentary about an ice cream man yet still finds time to score films. Crazy.

The Sold Project: Thailand, a doc the delves into the Thai sex industry, even features some of the composer’s work. And luckily enough for fans – or the unitiated – Schlarb saw fit to post “Threnody For Sharp Teeth and Freehold” on his website. Take a listen.

NYU to offer Guitar Hero course

Tags: , , ,

The NY Post has reported that New York University, one of America’s most prestigious universities will be offering a freshman seminar where the students play Guitar Hero.

The article states that prof. Gary Marcus plans on calling the course “Guitar Heroes (and Heroines): Music, Video Games and the Nature of Human Cognition.” (NY Post)

As if the ridiculousness of offering college credit for playing Guitar Hero wasn’t enough, it should be noted that the tuition per year for NYU is about $50,000.

The least surprising part of the article? There’s already a waiting list to take the course. Who didn’t see that coming?
