Mocky – ‘Birds of a Feather’ Remix feat. GZA

Tags: , , ,

This guy wasn’t anywhere near my radar until now. But my interest was piqued when I read that The Gza was featured on this song. The original version is a lead single off of Saskamodie: Mocky’s new album released earlier this year.

This piece is a jazzy romp filled with guitars and whistles. GZA fits in surprisingly well on it as he blesses the track with an intricate verse. I’m all for rappers, especially esteemed vets like GZA, venturing off into other genres as long as the end result sounds good. Check out the link below to hear the song. When you’re done with that hit up this mockumentary on Mocky if you want to “learn more” about this zany character.

As Tall As Lions: You Can’t Take It With You (Review)

As Tall As Lions

You Can't Take It With You

Released by Triple Crown Recordings

Making a record isn’t supposed to be easy, but listening to As Tall As Lions’ You Can’t Take it With You, with its dreamy sound, you might be surprised to find out that the album nearly ruined the New York-based quartet. This third album was two years in the pipeline as the follow-up to their self-titled 2006 album. From all the drama and dire days of changing producers midstream, the friends since high school travailed at the brink of combustion to bring out the heart and heat of this project. Dan ...

Perry Farrell interview

Perry Farrell, the ‘godfather’ of alt-rock, might soon have a new moniker to honor his strides in…electronic music? Yes, Farrell’s still a part of Satellite Party and Jane’s Addiction, but he’s also integrated a sizeable DJ area at Lollapalooza, performed live with Paul Van Dyk and Moby, played at Cochella under DJ Peretz and has a live electro act with wife Etty Farrell. While it seems surreal to chat blogs and The Bloody Beetroots with a man who’s famous for an extensive rock-based career, make no mistake about it, Farrell knows what he’s talking about. In fact, with every passing day, he’s becoming increasingly entrenched in the dance scene and collaborating with some of the biggest names in the business. Here for URB, Perry talks about DJ culture, the future of bands and finding his way in …

Lil Wayne Tour Grosses $42 Million

Despite some recent controversy and a backslide in buzz (mostly due in part to the excessive pushing back of Rebirth), Lil’ Wayne is back in the headlines for breaking records.

This time, the Cash Money superstar broke the record for the highest gross for any Hip-Hop tour ever (that Billboard has tracked). According to a Reuters report, the dreadlocked rapper, who made quite a sizable media splash after the success of his massive-selling Tha Carter III, has raked in $42 Million over a 78-performance North American tour between Dec of 2008 and Sep of 2009.

No word yet on what Weezy plans to spend the money on, but conventional wisdom says cough syrup. But if he really wants to make the transition to stadium rock- how about some damn guitar lessons, Wayne?
