Silkie: Stepping Out Of The City Limits + Exclusive Unreleased Track (MP3)

Darkside exploration of what's past the predominant tempo and finding the truth behind it.

Silkie is a fantastic anomaly in the world of 140BPM music; obviously a producer that’s deeply rooted within the creative peaks of dubstep, but also deeply inspired by things outside of the universe within the genre’s tempo. Even from year’s back, you can hear influences that go beyond the spectrum of dubstep, instead of highlighting the often-overused half-step drum pattern and mucking about, Silkie explored soul, funk and tribal influences. In his latest LP for Mala’s Deep Medi Musik imprint, Silkie pushes the boundaries of the city limits even further by taking more steps to collectively combat the idea of dubstep being a one-trick pony. There are dubstep producers and there’s producers like Silkie, and we’re lucky that he gave URB a few minutes of his time, as well an exclusive track to premiere. Glastonbury 2010: Sub Focus, Dizzee Rascal kill it (Video)

This year’s Glastonbury festival in England was a legendary one for two reasons: First, it was the 40th year Worthy Farm has hosted what’s become the largest festival in the world, and secondly, it didn’t rain. Not one single drop. The heat beat down on more than 200,000 heads this past weekend as temperatures climbed to a humid 80 degrees, but that didn’t stop fans of artists like Dizzee Rascal, Snoop Dogg, Parliament Funkadelic, The XX, Kelis, Muse and more from coming out and showing their Glasto love.  See the pics in the link below, as well as a few videos capturing two great moments : Dizzee Rascal’s energetic performance of “Heavy” (while wearing an England futball tee) on Friday and Subfocus’ remix of Rusko’s Hold On going completely OFF at The Glade Stage on Saturday.

Kode9

DJ-Kicks

Released by !K7

Steve Goodman, dubstep guru better known as Kode9 and label boss of London's innovative Hyperdub, contributes a mix to the legendary 15-years of DJ-Kicks. This is not a typical dubstep mix, and it’s not a snapshot of what’s hot right now, instead it takes you on a journey from the early 2000s through dubsteb, township funk, UK funky, dancehall, dub, futuristic soul, broken beat, digital r&b, jungle and full circle back to UK garage, grime and dubstep. Featuring mostly Brittish artists, it’s a surprise to hear L.A.’s sexy sirens ...
