UNIQLO Talks Music with Goapele and Friends (Event Recap)

Last week, UNIQLO’s Pop-Up in San Francisco hosted Oakland’s own Goapele to talk about music, changes in the industry and her own experience throughout the years. She was also joined by Aaron Axelson of Live 105, Stacy Horne of Noise Pop and Treasure Island Music Festival and Chris Smith of OM Records. Goapele Talks Music with UNIQLO – SF – August 23rd

San Francisco-based musicians and industry insiders from different ends of the spectrum come together and hold an engaging talk about the Bay Area’s exciting and ever changing music scene. Panelists will share stories about their creative process, producing massive festivals, and how their music is “Making Life A Little Bit Better.”

Los Rakas – Copita De Champaña (Video & MP3)

Los Rakas dropped their Love-Themed 9-song EP, “Raka Love” last week FOR FREE. The EP features original songs like the harp-alicious lead track, “Magia” (Translation: Magic) and past favorites, including Los Rakas’ collaboration with Goapele, “Play (Los Rakas Remix).”

The video for first single (above), ‘”Copita De Champaña” premiered on MTV Tr3s on Valentine’s Day.

From Los Rakas’ interview with MTV Tr3s about the video:
“Everybody nowadays is very materialistic. We wanted to show the humble side of things, and how it’s the thought that counts… You see people giving expensive things they can’t afford…a Spongebob watch only costs $2.99 and it looks fly.”

My familiarity with J-Boogie comes from the various remix and edit work he has done in the past (including one he made for Vieux Farka Touré's "Fafa" from 2009) as well as his collaboration with fan favorites People Under the Stairs, Quantic and his Combo Barbaro, Bay Area compadres Zion I, Goapele and Raashan Ahmad spanning multiple projects, personal and by others.
