Dark Disco In Brooklyn with Mary Anne Hobbs, Nosaj Thing + More

 

MeanRed is back with another devious dose of their darkside endeavor, Dark Disco. This time, it’s housed in the venue of Brooklyn’s own Music Hall of Williamsburg, with a lineup that’s undoubtedly impressive and immersive. The night will feature DJ sets from (now) post-chillwave act Toro y Moi, “lovestep” extraordinaire Dirty South Joe, and URB favourite Mary Anne Hobbs. What’s most intriguing is that L.A.’s abstract beatmaking sensation, Nosaj Thing, will be performing live a bit differently. Nosaj will be doing an impressive (and rarely done) full A/V set, with a focus on magnifying the live experience of Nosaj Thing (which is already fantastic). Markus Popp knows very well that finding his first musical success at the cusp of a sound critics declare to be something new has been as much a curse as it is a blessing. His work as Oval during the 90s received widespread recognition and acclaim, and through no effort on his part, his name came to be associated with the term glitch.

Possible Flying Lotus and Kanye West Collaboration?


Amid recent net-wide speculation, music fanatics everywhere are curious to know if a collaboration between  genre-blurring phenom Flying Lotus and  hip-hop super producer Kanye West could be in the pipeline. Although specific details about a project are scant, FlyLo suggested, with a comment posted live on Twitter, that something is indeed in the works.

On September 19 , Flying Lotus tweeted to West: “Yo, are you still rollin’ through today”? Yes folks, as in “rollin through” to the studio. Neither Flying Lotus or Kanye could be reached for comment.

Sonicbid Selects :: Argotec (MP3)

Bass, glitch, rap, rock, IDM, techno…it’s near impossible to full describe the music made by Alex Argot and Rich Courage (Defpotec), aka Argotec. This New York-based duo have been getting a lot of attention lately for their studied hip-hop sound akin to El-P and Glitch Mob among others.
