Ghostland Observatory- Codename: Rondo (Review) (Review)

Ghostland Observatory

Codename: Rondo

Released by Trashy Moped

Ghostland Observatory’s fourth release Codename: Rondo is an interesting collection of songs.  Even for Ghostland Obervatory, it’s a bit weird, but it’s refreshing to hear such a hodgepodge of sounds in one album. Nothing about Codename: Rondo is consistent.  Each song seems to be more bizarre from the previous one.  The first track, “Glitter,” is the strongest song on the album and sounds more like some of their work from the album Paparazzi Lightning.  “Glitter” is very catchy and has great, danceable beats.  Even if you haven’t seen Ghostland Observatory ...

Coachella Recap: FRIDAY

Leaving the lazy river-pool at a palm tree-lined concrete oasis in Indio, CA, at 1:30 pm for Coachella, a festival goer fully expects the “10 minute drive” to take at least an hour. Entering the festival (drive, park, trek to gate, line for ticket, line for frisking) at 4:05 pm, there was just enough time for a beer with The Presets and a little chat with Crystal Method before watching the Black Keys bring down the blues before sunset. Last night, Crystal Method played their second live non-DJ set in 5 years, supporting their new album of self-produced material. After so long and with new gear, they seemed a bit antsy, but the duo’s closing set in the Sahara tent knocked the socks off everyone not weeping over the ex-Beatle singing “Yesterday,” “Helter Skelter,” and “Can’t Buy …

Downloaderload Fest

A group of 6 guys lined up to toss a volleyball, soccer throw-in style, into the sunroof of a car about 30 feet away. Each one failed. I said to myself, self, if all you have to do to win that car is throw a ball in the sunroof, you can do it. And I did it, no spin on the ball, dropped right in and bounced off the center console back out. I won a towel.

It got cold by the time we left 8 and 1/2 hours later so I was grateful to have it afterall.

Being at Universal Studies, where flames and bombs and water shot up beyond the outdoor stage at regular intervals, then going into Gibson Ampitheatre’s large hollow dark dome, was weird. And enhanced the I-am-inside-an-ipod-on-shuffle experience, where the wheel …
