Avant Garde, nee Avant-God, auteur Def Sound has graced us with a new set of aural permutations that took us a bit by surprise late last night.

Young.Defferson. (prt 1-3.finally), despite it’s interesting choice in nomenclature, is another look into the mind of the producer/musician/artist.  Def tells us that the piece is inspired by a “new lil ‘selfie’ of my inner self,” and it shows.  Indicative of his multi-dimensional nature, Def provides not only the ‘sound selfie’ which takes us through a journey through the Trap into the Nu-Soul and ending up in some inspired Trillwave but also an animation meant to texturally speak to our visual senses.  (Editor’s Note: The original had to be resized because of a display issue… hit @phil_enn on twitter for …

Fashawn ft. J.Cole – “Nothin’ For The Radio” (MP3)

Here is a track off of Fashawns’ Higher Learning 2 mixtape, which drops today at hotnewhiphop.com after 3pm EST. The mixtape, is hosted by DJ Ill Will and DJ Rockstar, features 21 tracks with appearances by GLC, Tony Williams of G.O.O.D. Music, Gilbere Forte’ and  J. Cole, who spits on two tracks and contributed three beats for the project.

My relationship with this man and his music has been one of love and hate. It seems that within the past couple years, my sentiments have slid further and further in the direction of the latter. It's ironic that Kanye's very (rare) artistic trait of unabashed self-expression is the very same trait that caused me to begin to lose interest in his work, not to mention respect for him as a person.

Kanye West Signs Mos Def, Consolodates Power (Video)

Kanye West has always had some of the tendencies of a great dictator—a unnerving drive for control, a freakish aptitude for sharp looking apparel. Now Yeezy (a cool El Duce nickname if you will) has expanded his power-base in hip-hop, adding Mos Def to his oft dormant G.O.O.D. Music label. Mos joins the likes of Pusha T (of Clipse), Common, Kid Cudi, GLC, John Legend and Big Sean who will kiss the ring of Kanye as he signs checks (or something like that).
