It’s a wonderful day in New York City today; why? Because the LuckyMe crew is taking over for a last-minute shindig, basement-style. Naturally, the crew’s not letting loose on who’s popping by for a set, but with The Blessings already in tow, and releases from the likes of Jacques Greene, Obey City and Cid Rim being let out into the wild recently, there’s sure to be some pleasantly vibey surprises. Check out the flyer, RSVP link and a preview of tonight’s event, post-jump.
Newcomer Jahmann Massey “Put It Down” for the people, on a mix tape, that’s free. Get it here and watch the video….
We here at URB know a few things about great talents, not to toot our own horn, but we’ve been grateful to have the two featured acts from this event contribute some awesome podcasts for us, and it’s because of those mixes that we highly endorse checking out the debut edition of DARK//SIDE, a new techno-oriented event doing it right at a secret location in Brooklyn. The event itself will highlight the ever-evolving sounds of Ital, who has been busy peeking his head into the world of off-world techno, with magnificent results (ie – Workshop 18, preview down below). Joining him will be an up-and-coming techno wunderkind by the name of Divvorce, who gave us a hell of a scorching URB podcast a couple of months back, bringing it hard with a style that’s truly his own to behold. With these two bringing it, along with residents Dan Wender (of our favorite Brooklyn party jaunt RINSED) and Sheepshead, it’s already a can’t-miss event. But there’s also a nice twist to this techno-fueled arrangement; the party’s free with RSVP. With that RSVP, the location to the event will be revealed soon thereafter. However, remember; the free admission comes before 12AM, otherwise it’s a measly five bucks. So either way, something that’s in your wheelhouse. Check out all the details, including the RSVP link, the Facebook event and previews of what’s to come, post-jump.
Soulection — Hot Damn.
It’s hard to believe how much time has passed since being indoctrinated to their particular brand of Soul, R&B, and Soultronica trappings. (Sorry, DJ Eko, but we had to crib your term to try and bring a definition to their sound.) To say that the group was forward thinking in their efforts to change the way that radio (and music labels) created conversations with it’s constituents is an understatement. I would go as far as saying that this group of artists, musicians, and affiliates are this generation’s GP WW on BBC 1 (look that up). You may be thinking to yourself that this is an extremely lofty comparison, but that is a conversation for another more in depth …
Don’t get into enough private functions to make your friends jealous? Well, here’s a limited time offer from URB and our partners at The Flavor Group.
