The Foreign Exchange – Authenticity (Review) (Review)

Foreign Exchange

Authenticity

Released by The Foreign Exchange Music

The new FE album "Authenticity" clocks in at a polished eleven tracks, with the memorable "Everything must go” starting off with a synthesizer melody that hypnotizes from start to finish. "This city ain't the same without you" utilizes fan favorite Yazarah's vocals. MTV picking up "The Ballad of Purple St. James’”  first video for rotation is as just a much a testament to the FE+ label, as is the newest tight knit ZO!  full length. Nicolay's solo catalog continues to develop over time, and "Don't Wait" provides the proof Darrien Brockington's eventual solo album is long deserved. I have no doubt we'll see a rise in notoriety of all of the artists in the collective in the not so distant future.

Jimetta Rose – “Renaissance Interview” & Birthday Performance (Video & MP3)

Frequent collaborator with the SA-RA Creative Partners and Georgia Anne Muldrow, Ms. Rose is already building quite the reputation for her energetic solo stage show and has just released “The Barber’s Daughter” earlier this year. I recently had a chance to sit down and ask about her favorite artists, working with new media at the eWorld Electronic Music Awards where she performed alongside SA-RA.

Even though we had recently published a glowing multi-page feature on the band in 1994, another writer later ridiculed them for playing covers of classic hip-hop tracks in their live show. A Roots member by the name of Brother Question—soon to be known as ?uestlove, the de facto band leader and icon—took umbrage to say the least and wrote an angry letter to the editor which we published. 15 years later and The Roots are one of music’s most enduring hip-hop bands, …

Carlitta Durand Interview & “Doug & Patty EP” link (MP3)

I believe a proper introduction is due. Ms. Durand toured with Foreign Exchange when they fist established their live road act.  Most prominent adding a layer of heavenly on the Nicolay Shibuya CD, the intro track to the third Little Brother album, “Get Back” (Sirens),  on the Buckshot & 9th Wonder (”Go all out”) single and (man listen) from ” The Formula” their 2nd collaboration together. All though no longer involved with FE she just this holiday weekend dropped the free gem “The Doug & Patty EP” along with Vaughn Garcia.

1. Best worst/moments in the studio?

Well the only time I can think of an univiting time in the studio was a couple of years back, with this guy who thought he was the shit. I didn’t say a word. He kept telling me what to do over and over and over again so he could piece …
