Florence, Death Cab & Noel Gallagher @ Wrex The Halls (Live Review)

The gravity-challenged audience members at Valley View Casino Center were every bit as captivating as the bands at 91X’s annual Wrex The Halls. As Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds attacked the Oasis classic “Don’t Look Back In Anger,” a tipsy bromancer in the loge section attempted to hug his friend and wound up tackling three individuals in the process. “If I Had A Gun,” the recent hit bringing Gallagher’s blurry artistic vision back into focus, kept most on their feet and highlighted an intriguing set.

Death Cab for Cutie got off to a rocky start due to technical difficulties, but quickly righted the ship with soaring selections from Codes and Keys such as “Stay Young, Go Dancing.” A young couple swing-danced in the aisles to the band’s rhythms before the gentleman lost his footing and ate shit …

Jamie XX To Produce Next Drake Album

The crossover between indie artist and hip-hop acts isn’t exactly new (think Kid Cudi on Letterman backed by Ratatat, or Bon Ivers performing back-up vocals for Kanye). But this raised our eyebrows. The video is set to the ‘96 Olympics. Love The XX remix avec Theophilus it feels a lot more whole; I still like The XX and Florence but there was something missing, I guess that was Theo. Watch the video below and listen to the Frankie Knuckles treatment as well. Long live the gospel! Videos after the jump…

From humble origins in the Minneapolis slam poetry scene to selling out shows alongside P.O.S. on the Every Never Is Now Tour, Dessa has emerged as one of the most diverse and talented artists in indie rap. When she’s not on the mic she finds time to write thought-provoking works of creative non-fiction and poetry and teaches a hip hop diploma program at McNally Smith. Also check out the video for “Dixon’s Girl” from her stellar full-length debut A Badly Broken Code at the end of our interview.

URB: Who were your influences when you first got into writing and performing?
DESSA: It was a writer of creative non-fiction named Dave Eggers, who was …
