HEALTH Cover Pictureplane Covering Fleetwood Mac (MP3)

Los Angeles foursome HEALTH have gained notoriety for being remixed by the right folks as much as their own unique mix of noise and dreampop. Now the group has gotten into the reimagining game themselves, covering Pictureplane’s “Goth Star.” The catch? Both versions of the tune make ample use of Fleetwood Mac’s “Seven Wonders,” making it a cover of a sample, perhaps? Either way, it’s pretty rad?

New Cut Copy “Where I’m Going” (MP3)

URB.com’s 2008 Artist of the Year poll winners Cut Copy have re-emerged from their base camp down under with a new single being given away for free. “Where I’m Going” takes a few steps away from the group’s electro-pop roots, opting instead for a ’60s psychedelic pop vibe.

New Territory For UNKLE (Interview)

James Lavelle, the DJ, producer, Mo’ Wax record label boss and founder of musical outfit UNKLE, is back with the fourth official UNKLE album Where Did the Night Fall. With Pablo Clements (Psychonauts) as his new sideman, they go one a new route, using primarily live instrumentation and rock/psych pop as their sonic palette. URB: Why do you choose to use the UNKLE tag, since there’s always been a changing cast of group members.
JAMES LAVELLE: It’s not different from why would you keep on calling it Fleetwood Mac? Many bands come and go, but when it’s not started as a traditional band, then group members come and go. The main reason is because we created an identity, and to create an …

Hot Chip – One Life Stand (Review)

Hot Chip

One Life Stand

Released by Astralwerks

Eight tracks deep into One Life Stand, Hot Chip delivers "We Have Love." I doubt you'll read anywhere that "We Have Love" is the standout moment on what is a decidedly solid album, but the song bears mention because it is the aural equivalent of Alvin & The Chipmunks' brains... on the Prodigy. That's the (as yet unmentioned) winning formula that makes Hot Chip, and One Life Stand in particular, palatable for such a widely diverse audience. Their electronic sensibilities appeal to danceheads, and yet the hyperkinesis is gentle enough to evoke the huggable nature of childhood ADHD. Slow-burner "Keep Quiet," allegedly a response to the guys being moved by Susan Boyle's dramatic turn on Britain's Got Talent, brings to mind the moody atmospherics of Massive Attack and Sneaker Pimps.
