Maybe it’s someone you hooked up with for just an afternoon. Maybe it’s the guy/girl you met through a friend and made a fool of yourself. Or maybe it’s the person you just saw on the field but didn’t have the nerve to say anything.

15 Women & a call to Just Stand Up!

As a means of supporting the fight against Cancer, ABC, NBC, and CBS partnered up. On Friday, Sep 5th, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Fergie, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Melissa Etheridge, Ashanti, Natasha Bedingfield, Keyshia Cole, Ciara, Leona Lewis, LeAnn Rimes, and Carrie Underwood all performed the charitable single, “Just Stand Up.”

The Walkmen And Me

I suppose I should preface all of this by admitting – I am emo for The Walkmen. By now, I’ve seen them play in every possible scenario: Large Los Angeles concert hall, cramped Austin 6th street bar, alongside the Queen Mary at the All Tomorrows Parties festival, at an all night warehouse rave somewhere in the plains of Texas, various festivals and smoky clubs. I’ve seen them more times than I’ve seen my beloved Radiohead. Hell, I’ve even paid to see them. I have them on I tunes. I have them on CD. I have them on vinyl. I don’t pay for music unless I really, really love them. I love the Walkmen so much I’d marry them (my dowry offer to Ham is ready).

Peanut Butter Wolf 888 finally

How many times in one week can a guestlist go bad. That what we URB editors were asking our selves as night after night, our intrepid interns headed out to one of Peanut Butter Wolf’s much lauded 888 events around Los Angeles. Like clockwork, the text would appear, ‘Can’t get in. Can you help?’ and calls would go out to our Stones Throw peeps on site to recify the situation. Of course, if you follow this blog, you know that we made it inside each and every time—and the fact that PBW was able to draw round the block lines seven out of seven nights is a good signal to the overall health of underground hip-hop in LA, even if it can exasperate the velvet rope.

Jay-Z Rips It At Glastonbury

It’s clear that Noel Gallagher’s criticisms were lingering somewhere in the back of Shawn Carter’s mind as he first emerged from the backstage shadows. Entering to the immediately familiar Oasis anthem “Wonderwall,” Jay led the crowd, approximately 180,000 strong, in a wry sing-along. With a smirk creeping over his face, a guitar-wielding Master of Ceremonies looked slightly more validated as fans embraced his playful reinterpretation.
