A Bouquet Full of Snot

We had big plans to stream empeefrees that would simultaneously blow your mind and your heart, on this here Valentines Day, but damned if we're going to try and compete with Peanut Butter Wolf. The Stones Throw vet released his collection of songs to get down and dirty to, and it's a leftfield collection of down and dirty cuts. The Internuts at Stones Throw want you to email this mixtape to the girl you forgot to send flowers to, but you might be better off just burning a copy and pretending like you're the wally chump champ all-star of Hallmark's made up holiday. Here's the tracklisting, and below it, our attempt to get you some loving….or at least off the couch.

Chicago bets a feast, Indy bets Neil Sedaka

The moment I'd been waiting for since the Bears and Colts locked up their Super Bowl spots has finally arrived. The two week layoff provided ample time to ponder whether the Bears' defense can slow Peyton Manning, or if it'll be good Rex or bad Rex on the field Sunday. But ever since the game was set between my hometown and our kindly neighbors to the south, I've wondered just what cultural bounty Naptown would have to offer against the bounty of artery-clogging eats we boast of in the land of the Super Fans.

As expected, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley stepped up first and boy did he go big. Our city's Boss put up the expected pizza, ribs, burgers, nachos, cheesecake, hot dogs, Italian beefs and sausages. (No word if their from Hot Doug's but if he really …

Indie Innuendo: Company Flow Reunites

Tags: ,

Nothing official on this yet, but with the 10 year anniversary of the minefield rap classic Funcrusher Plus on the near horizon and anonymous confirmation from reliable sources, Company Flow is reuniting. Co-Flow MC and current Mush Records artist Bigg Jus has been telling a few heads around LA that “they're working together on something.” Some of something might include deluxe packaging—and new material—for the reissue of Funcrusher and a DVD release of the group's last performance together, about six years ago. All three dudes—El-P, Jus and Mr. Len—have projects for the first part of the double-oh-seven, so we're sure to hear awkward denials or pieces of confirmation from the trio in the coming months. URB.com will keep you updated in the mean time.

R. Kelly’s legal troubles are over…

Tags: , ,

Well the boring ones anyway.

The often lampooned R&B singer reached a settlement to end a zoning dispute with the Chicago suburb Olympia Fields. He's still supposed to go to trial on those child pornography charges someday, but nothing's on the schedule just yet.

Whenever the child porn case does get rolling again, Kelly better hope he fares a bit better than in his recent dispute. That one ended with Kelly tearing down the guard house he'd had built without a permit and paying Olympia Fields $20,000 in legal fees. (I told you it was boring)

The much more serious and comical issues he's facing are stalled as the trial for the porn charges isn't planned just yet. He was arrested on those charges back in 2002. This mess with the guard house just started last spring. There's really …

Arthur Russell

Springfield (DFA Remix)

Released by Audika

Talk about a dream disco pairing of yesterday and the ultra-modern today. 'Springfield' is one of the last songs the sorely underappreciated Arthur Russell wrote during his brief career. (He died of AIDS complications in 1992.) As with many of his visionary singles, it still sounds years ahead of most dance music, made even more so by the tasteful disco, new wave and electro undertones the DFA piles on like pastrami in a New York deli.
