In the spirit of previewing the energy of North Coast Music Festival this year we got The Car Thief of Bandiit to create an extensive and hyper mix, which perfectly captures some of the spirit that will rise from the grounds at Union Park one week from now. Bandiit is the creation of two Wolf Pack co-founders, Chris Hemstreet and Sean McCarthy or WSK and The Car Thief, created in the summer of 2010. You can catch Bandiit playing at NCMF Friday at 8:00 p.m on the Magic Hat Local stage.
KC’s favorite son and Palms Out Sounds signee Norrit is giving URB the business; meaning the business of serious bass-smanging. With his Only Me And U EP released last month on Palms Out (available through the usual digital retailing suspects), he’s been combing through his archives of epic vibes to give URB an exclusive diddy. We love this tune, in fact we are dancing to it right now as we speak. Download “Still Nobody Baby” down below post-jump.
Fresh from the July 25th release of their third album, Ritual Union (Peacefrog Records), Little Dragon came through the famous Roxy club in West Hollywood eager to perofm new material to an intimate and elated crowd. Immensely talented, the Swedish quartet functions organically and collectively, as all members of the group substantially contribute to the overall sensation of the music: the synths are deep, the basslines heavy and pronounced, with (nu)jazz percussion facilitating movement between the soloists and the beautiful Japanese-Swedish vocalist Yukimi Nagano.
The show began with the opening track from their new album; title track “Ritual Union,” a tune threaded together with dark and hollow synthesizers with enough bounce to get a solid two-step going. An effective and delightful warm-up leading up to the equally soulful and effervescent second track …
What’s needed to be said about this week’s podcast? It’s only from one of the more iconic groups in electronic music history. The Black Dog have taken many forms in the way of lineup changes, but the musical approach has always been ahead of its time, from their iconic releases on Warp Records (Bytes, Spanners) to their latest, more techno-rooted vibes on the fantastic Soma and Dust Science labels (Further Vexations, Ov Mind Ov Magick); they’ve avoided pigeon-holing themselves time and time again by remaining true to what lies within their deep, dark minds.
Apparently in this mix, it involves a lot of brooding techno and an onslaught of tunes from one of the most impressive young producers to date, Blawan, plus SEVEN unreleased tracks bythe mixersthemselves. That’s not a bad thing at all. This mix is surely something that needs to be experienced prior to highlighting a dark night of bass. With that said, get the headphones on full-blast and the body ready to move at will, enjoy this amazing mix from the legends themselves. Tracklist after the jump.
