Jamie XX FACT Mix

Lots of DJs do frequent mixes, but few seem as prolific as Jamie XX, who has been turning out a memorable collection of songs with great frequency for places such as the BBC (Essential Mix and 6Mix) and the Numbers podcast. Or maybe we just pay more attention to Jamie’s collections because we can always count on a varied and excellent tracklist from the XX beatmaker.

The litest set comes in the form of a 30-minute FACT Mix, which is quite a bit shorter than the two-hour epic Essential Mix that just aired two weeks ago. But it’s still a tight package worth a quick listen.

Jamie XX :: Essential Mix (MP3)

Jamie XX has more or less become a one-man facinating beat brand, pushing out an amalgamation of electronic sounds more eclectic than 100 random club DJs combined. So we’re excited as all get-out to check this two hour mix he did for BBC Radio One’s legendary Essential Mix program (a show that usually isn’t so inventive itself). The mix opens with a classic from Orbital, and then gets deep with interesting gems from Floating Points, James Blake and Jamie’s own reworkings of Gil Scott-Heron and Radiohead.

Aeroplane “We Can’t Fly” (MP3)

When Aeroplane closed out their set at LA’s Rhondavous party last week, the almost infuriatingly slow track had the polysexual crowd in utter ecstasy—all hands in the air and echos of poppers past. So here’s the full track that’s been wowing blog diggers since the group’s 500th Essential Mix set a few weeks back. It has so many flavors, but we’re tasting a bit of Talking Heads in the vocal meter. Get ready for your tempo to sloooooow [spotted by Asian Man Dan].
