2010 had its highs and lows in the world of music videos: While some brought their A-game and churned out some cinematic masterpieces (Kanye’s long-form visual opus “Runaway“, Hot Chip’s weird and hilariously satirical “I Feel Better“, M.I.A.’s pro-ginger political piece “Born Free“) others’ mediocrity yielded some inarguable disappointments (I’m getting a headache just thinking about Drake’s “Over” video..how many patterns can you project onto one man’s face??). Here’s a bit of a burn to anyone who pays an exorbitant monthly cable bill. HBO has posted their new show, “How To Make It In America” on YouTube a FULL WEEK before it premiers on the premium cable network. The show stars URB cover star Kid Cudi along with a bunch of other 20-something attracto-bots (including the always awesome Shannyn Sossamon, who’s been playing angsty 20-somthings for, like, ever). It’s been pegged as an Entourage in NYC, only with the characters struggling rather than succeeding. (watch it after the jump)
New York hip-hop trio The Beatards follow in the “footsteps” of U-N-I’s “K.R.E.A.M. ” with the release of “Don’t Step On My Sneakers,” a tribute to their favorite footwear. The track fuses an electro drum beat with electric guitars and yelling reminiscent of Beastie Boys’ “No Sleep Til Brooklyn.” Rappers UTK the INC, Chuck Wild and DJO–of Indian, Jewish and Korean descent respectively–spit about their treasured kicks while finding time for some Big Daddy Kane-esque braggadocio rhymes. As evidenced by the group name, the tongue is usually firmly planted in cheek, though clearly these guys love their shoes.
