Sepalcure

Released by Hotflush

NYC duo Sepalcure are releaseing their much anticipated debut full length through Hotflush Recordings. The London label that from its start in 2003 quickly became synonymous with the sound that came to be known as Dubstep, and its tradition of unearthing the best new talent in bass music. Travis Stewart (Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (Braille), utilize the broader canvas of the album format to develop their collaborative process and incorporate the diverse influences present in their solo work to their sonic mixture. Live Review: Flammable Liquid 20-Year Anniversary Reunion

Twenty years.  Good God.  Has it really been twenty years?  Has it really been two decades since Flammable Liquid, L.A.’s most beloved of all old-school rave after-hours, began blazing its historic trail and setting the city’s nocturnal underground alight?  Have the ones who’ve been there from the beginning really gotten that much older?  And can that magical vibe from all those years ago be resurrected in this second decade of the twenty-first century?  Well, yes, yes, yes, and YES, respectively, as this 20th-year reunion party proved on this cool September night.  Even as Nocturnal Wonderland  raged far away in San Bernardino to tens of thousands, the several hundred who were at Flammable Liquid laughed at the mere idea of going all the way out there for yet another by-the-numbers massive.  There was no fucking way they were going to miss …

STS9 @ House of Blues Sunset 08/11/11 (Live Review)

Having listened to STS9’s albums multiple times, working through their dense instrumentation and well-crafted harmonies on several occasions, this still proved to be very little in preparing me for their live performance. At times dubstep, techno, but always surprisingly funky EDM, STS9 delivered in the first half of their show with tracks such as “One a Day,” “Hidden …

Helmut Dubnitzky – We Walk (Review)

Helmut Dubnitzky

We Walk

Released by Brise Records

This album is a perfect example of never judge a book by its cover; what a surprise this one-of-the-worst-covers-that-mankind-has-ever-seen reveals when you start peeling. We Walk is the debut album of German Producer and Mastering Engineer Helmut Dubnitzky, and it’s released on Helmut's own label Brise Records. Opening track “Move” is a hypnotizing and repetitive burner with deep bass & analog vibes, clean piano and subtle but vivid attention to detail. “Uuuhaaah” follows with beautiful strings, up-tempo 4/4 bass and sharp percussion – reminiscing an uplifted Nicolas Jaar. Like the ...
