Filmed in HD at the unforgettable UMF 2011, “Can U Feel It” provides a viable snapshot of EDM culture today, while portraying a compelling vision of its even bigger future. If you have ever hit a club in NYC chances is are Rob Fernandez helped make that memorable night happen in some capacity. URB recently sat down with Rob on the heals of Pacha’s 5th birthday and his impending birthday bash to discuss all things celebratory in and about the New York nightlife. If you are unfamiliar with who Rob is we won’t hold that against you… even though he has taken home multiple Dancestar & Club World Awards for his events in the last three years not to mention the last two decades. He’s not one to bask, too much, in the spotlight. If that weren’t enough he also has a few other accolades under his belt, most notably “New Yorker of the Year”, not an easy feat in Gotham City. So a big thanks to the man for giving us his time to take a hilarious look back as well as a a positive glance at the future for electronic music in the US. Make the jump after the interview for a little present and info from Rob should you be headed or in the NYC area.
With Abe Vigoda opening, the two-piece turned in their most satisfying show yet to a very congested house — the night after a shooting rampage, no less — which seemed just a body or two shy of breaking into full-on dance party to the duo’s infectious, Middle Eastern- and punk-rock-influenced dance-pop.
The anticipation is building and you heard it here, folks. Phase 2 of Ultra Music Festival 12 was just announced and it looks like the producers are pulling out all the stops to bring the absolute best of the best in electronic dance music. With the festival just over 40 days away, we can only imagine what surprises they have up their sleeves.
This year’s UMF represents one of the strongest and most diverse electronic line-ups ever assembled with the addition of collaborators Damian Marley & Nas, Faithless Sound System, Groove Armada Live, Will.I.Am and ummm..Little Boots. And that’s just the beginning.
