Tonight’s IHeartComix screening of The Electro Wars at LA’s retro-fabulous Vista Theater brought back a whole lot of memories from the salad days of 2007-2008, when it seemed the fierce and fuzzy club music known as electro was taking over the world. But it wasn’t all reflection and nostalgia. Here’s a few things we learned (or remembered) from watching the film.
This just in from our friends at FILTER:
We’re not sure what else is to come from New Zealand-based artist ZOWIE… but we like what we hear so far with this futuristic teaser for “Love Demolition”. With beats reminiscent of The Knife.. on a not-so-dark day, and a hint of 80’s synths, it’s a right catchy tune. At only 22, she has already opened for The Kills and Peaches and has performed at The Big Day Out and Rhythm and Vines. We would like to be teased a bit more to see what Miss ZOWIE has to offer.
Lil Jon has become something of the unofficial mascot of the LA dance music scene, spending more time on stage at events like HARD and Electric Daisy Carnival than the guy in charge of the smoke machine. This is good or bad thing, depending on you tolerance for shouting over electro beats. Now he’s finally dropping the long-rumored collab with Diplo, “U Don’t Like Me,” with a belly ache of a dubstep bass line and Lil Jon doing his best, er…Lil Jon on the mic. You can preview and buy the track on Mad Decent right now, plus check out the full-length remix by South Rakkas Crew who turn the cut into a serious rap rock assault.
