Several years ago, when speaking to Ed Banger records honcho Busy P, I asked the frenchman who he thought was the greatest French DJ of all time. “Laurent Garnier,” he answered without the slightest hesitation. Of course, there could be no other answer. Compilation CDs have had a rough couple of years. With MP3 mixes in abundance, it has seemed as if taking the time to properly curate (and license) a collection of songs is a losing proposition. That is, unless you’re ultra-hype French imprint Ed Banger, and your new mix, Let The Children Techno, has tons of new music by artists such as Flying Lotus, Busy P, Mr. Oizo, Cassius and more. You can stream the entire album, mixed by Busy P and DJ Mehdi, on MySpace. Just please don’t rip the tracks and try to play them out. Low quality streams are not meant for da club.
Squarepusher has been riding the Jaco Pastorius slap-bass shtick for a few albums now—and I’ll admit it’s kinda worn out it’s welcome—but this new single off his upcoming Shobaleader album for Ed Banger has some focus we’ve not heard from Mr. Jenkins in a minute. And of course, since it’s Ed Banger, Mr. Oizo gives the whole thing a more electro dance floor polish.
