Dark Disco In Brooklyn with Mary Anne Hobbs, Nosaj Thing + More

MeanRed is back with another devious dose of their darkside endeavor, Dark Disco. This time, it’s housed in the venue of Brooklyn’s own Music Hall of Williamsburg, with a lineup that’s undoubtedly impressive and immersive. The night will feature DJ sets from (now) post-chillwave act Toro y Moi, “lovestep” extraordinaire Dirty South Joe, and URB favourite Mary Anne Hobbs. What’s most intriguing is that L.A.’s abstract beatmaking sensation, Nosaj Thing, will be performing live a bit differently. Nosaj will be doing an impressive (and rarely done) full A/V set, with a focus on magnifying the live experience of Nosaj Thing (which is already fantastic). Details on where to get tickets and the flyer with info on tonight’s festivities after the jump.

Sepalcure Live On Percussion Lab Radio (Exclusive Set) + EU Tour Dates (MP3)

Call it a really amazing "going-away" present.

The soulful duo of Sepalcure (Machinedrum & Praveen Sharma) are finally going abroad to make the kids out in Europe fall in love with their emotionally engaging sounds, going to Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris and London with fellow Hotflush luminaries such as Scuba/SCB, George FitzGerald and Sigha. Also, if you’re in London on the 17th, don’t you dare miss out on seeing them with the badman James Blake. What has impressed me about Sepalcure is the simultaneous evolution of their live show and productions; it’s always changing into something more personal, more demonstrative of how much they pour into the tunes they make. With their second EP, Fleur coming out in January via Hotflush, the duo has graced URB with a fantastic live session they did on a radio show that they frequent, Percussion Lab Radio.  There is no tracklist (you don’t need one, just listen to it) but there’s all good vibes. Mix link and EU tour info after the jump.

URB x Fabric Presents: 2562 (Exclusive Q/A + Mix) (MP3)

The holidays come early thanks to this mix.

Good things come to those who wait, huh? About a year ago, I remember wishing the almighty two-in-one combo of 2562/A Made Up Sound would do a mix for URB; that unfortunately didn’t happen, so time went on doing its thing. Then one day, this mix showed up courtesy of 2562 and the lovely people at Fabric. Blending techno, house, and “future-bass”, 2562/AMUS is a technically sound and superb selective DJ, and along with a quick Q/A, he gave URB something to be happy about going into the holidays. He’ll also be playing an epic night at Fabric in London tomorrow night. Details on the night, the Q/A and the mix link after the jump. Enjoy…

The Big Pink – Tapes (Review)

One half of Brit dub-rock duo The Big Pink (behind last year's shouty hit "Dominos"), singer Milo Cordell is keeping the band's momentum afloat with Tapes. A  moody, glitchy 19 track series immersed in the slow, just-out-of-time, electronic patterns (those often suffixed "-gaze") quickly emerging from home studios, both in and out of established music capitals, and kinda-definitely different from the more centerfield music the Big Pink create themselves. Cohesion seeps through the hazy din emanating from Tapes; whether there's a message or not, you can see what Cordell is ...
