Indie group Hey Champ (previously signed under Lupe Fiasco’s label FNF) just leaked a brand new track from their upcoming remix project w/ dubFrequency. Taking the vocals from one of my personal favorites from Gone Fishing — “Champions” — Hey Champ mashes together a concoction of 80s pop and funk as background to match. Definitely an interesting sound to hear The Cool Kids on since we’re all so used to their signature yet minimal drum beats. Take a listen here and look out for the rest of the project soon (rumored appearances include Mike Posner, The Sounds, and others)…
Beestings & Nosebleeds is a popular summer event series from dubFrequency that takes place at the rooftop of The Standard Downtown LA every three Saturdays. So far this summer’s performers/DJ’s include Wale, Junior Sanchez, Rob Roy, Hollywood Holt, Hey Champ and Mike B. among others; showcase of a wide range of musical genres next to a pool and free jello shots. As we hit the half-way mark of the summer, dubFrequency resident DJ Nicky Savage has put together a killer 45 minute mix that best represents the sound of Beestings & Nosebleeds. Hosted by Rob Roy.
Rob Roy, the Florida native, is definitely one of a kind. His leading video for “Fur In My Cap” has already garnered interests from the likes of Skateboard P and Justin Timberlake. However, today is a special treat as he’s uploaded all his joints from King Warrior Magician Lover onto imeem. Enjoy below.
As presented by Don Cannon, DJ Benzi, and dubFrequency…
Mike Posner & The Brain Trust has dropped their mixtape and doesn’t disappoint. Fusing pop/r&b/hip-hop, this guy is dope. With songs like “Drug Dealer Girl” (talking about how he wants to light up for free with his hot dealer) and “Cooler Than Me” (guaranteed to make you smile…about snotty nosed chicks who forget your name), Posner deals with his relationships (past/present) with the opposite sex while adding infectious melodies that will guarantee to get your girl asking, “Who are you listening to?”
Anyway, enough talk…take a listen for yourself below –
