The soon to open Tammany Hall in NYC’s Lower East Side played host to a cast of downtown alumni at their private event with Fool’s Gold Records and LTD Magazine this past Friday. The event nearly shut down the strip of Orchard St by midnight, bringing out an all star line up of performers including Mannie Fresh, Just Blaze, The Brothers Macklovitch (A-Trak and Dave 1 of Chromeo), Sammy Bananas and a surprise appearance by Drake. The night fueled by Bushmill’s Irish Whiskey was another blowout in their annual holiday party tradition, which took place last year at Etnies’ SoHo Showroom. A welcome one we’re looking forward to joining again, even if it’s more than a year from now.

This year went by faster than a shadow lurking in the night sky but all’s well that ends well. As the year approaches its close and I sit here with my pringles, I thought about all the songs that were constantly and are still being repeated over and over again in my iTunes. Yes, several of you will yell at me for not listing your specific choices for the year but you can leave your list in the comments.

Fresh off a hot summer overseas with everyone from Snoop Dogg and Freeway to South African superstar Jack Parow, Kosha Dillz has come up with a whole new arsenal of music since his album Beverly Dillz hit MTV, twice.
Beverly Dillz, produced entirely by Belief, earned enough attention this past year to have Kosha the opportunity to record music with Rza of Wu Tang after Rock the Bells, and even land himself his own playable character in NBA 2k11 alongside other celebrities like Drake and Bow Wow. (the only Jewish rapper to do so besides Drake) On top of these unique accolades, he spent over two months on the road with reggae sensation Matisyahu in over 5 countries.

The digital quill is in need of a refill (and a bottle of Nyquil after a mind-bending Devil’s Night/All Hallow’s Eve) so here’s a few burnt offerings at the Tabernacle of Fractured Journalism better known as the blogosphere.
The first official single from Lupe Fiasco’s hoped-for swan song, Lasers (although Atlantic has other ideas for the talented MC who still can’t live down botching “Electric Relaxation” at VH1’s Hip-Hop Honors 2007). Riffing on Modest Mouse is a move that could backfire for some of the Chicagowin’s more left-of-center devotees but the song is by no means a misstep. Let your own cochlear nerves be the judge:
