These days it seems like everyone and their mama is some sort of DJ, but amongst the masses of party rockers, scratch enthusiasts, and bedroom hobbyists there are very few that possess a mastery of their craft. Enter this evenings Friday Fresh recipient, Jayvi Velasco.
To go along with his status as a bonafide underground legend (Bay Area After-After Hours homies stand up!), Jayvi has held residencies all over California and has shared billings on both over and underground events with folks like Vikter Duplaix, Ron Carroll, Miguel Migs, Mark Farina, Jay-J, Gene Farris, David Harness, Simon, Jeno, and even George Clinton & The P-Funk All Stars.

Reppin’ Long Island, NY the Jason Nevins signee J.roe debuts the video for his quick tongued verbal assault on the industry, titled “1Chain2Chainz.” From Lil Wayne, Drake, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, Waka Flocka and more.. nobody’s safe. Produced by AllArounda Productions and directed by Anthony Behn, this song, along with his previously released video “Our Generation” will both be featured on J.roe’s forthcoming, currently untitled mixtape, which is scheduled to drop in early January. With one week til the release of “House of Bees Vol. 2,” B. Dolan and the folks at Strange Famous have unleashed “King Bee,” the song teased in the original HOBV2 trailer that debuted a month ago.
“King Bee” finds Dolan & Buddy Peace jacking for beats and making a certified rap banger out of the blues standard of the same name. In no mood to pull punches, Dolan tees off with a brash reminder of his hard-earned credibility: “I invented Ugly,” he declares, and proceeds to bare his teeth at more than a few of his rap peers. With SXSW in full swing, we thought it would be a good idea to shed light on another act that should be on your radar — Sarah Jaffe.
Her forthcoming album, The Body Wins, drops on April 24. Our early thoughts on the album see it as a creatively textured amalgamation of sounds and musical influences. With different acoustic and electronic influences, the haunting, and yet danceable melodies that are presented should be heard (and in this case seen) to be believed).
