DJ Mehdi :: “Loukoums” / Pedro Winters Speaks (MP3)

Ed Banger records head Pedro Winters (Busy P) has finally spoken about the tragic death of his close friend and musical brother DJ Mehdi last week. And of course, he’s communicating with music. Winters posted “Loukoums” on the Ed Banger Soundcloud page along with the message:

back in 2006, Dj Mehdi’s hommage to Dilla 
we did something like 200 promo CDs for friends 
I think it’s time for this music to be shared and enjoyed by all of us 
I still can’t believe what’s happening, so I press play and I listen to my best friend’s music.

J Dilla :: “Lightworks” (Video)

Sometimes you have to stop and wonder about the important things, like if J Dilla had named his final album Lo Mein instead of Donuts, what would his posthumous iconography look like?

Guess we’ll never find out. But here’s another excellent clip culled from the submissions to Stones Throw‘s J Dilla video contest, following last week’s video for “Last Donut of the Night.” Unlike the live action clip we saw last week, this piece by James McMillan offers a retro ’60s animated visualization of the producers work.

Happy Birthday James Yancey (Video)

It’s the magical time of year again you guys. Not just Black History Month, or time of the annual grammies, NBA all star game in LA, it’s Dilla’s birthday. In honor of what is undoubtedly the best hip hop producer of all time, here’s “J.Dilla : Still Shining” the documentary for the fans that know him best told by the people who love him.
