17 year old producer DJ Sidereal remixes Nas‘s classic “Life’s a Bitch” for a back to school special, as the burgeoning deejay enters his final year of high school this week. Sure school is a bitch, and work is too, so why not release a remix to help lighten everyone up? When Nas penned his street life motto, I’m sure he didn’t know it would take so many different meanings and influences from the projects to the classroom. Regardless, one thing is certain, and that’s this remixed will be playing at Sidereal’s Minneapolis suburban high school this week. Stay tuned for Sidereal’s debut EP, S.I.D.E., dropping in late September.
This Labor Day weekend, Friday August 30 to Sunday September 1, Made Event presents the 5th annual Electric Zoo (EZ) music festival, returning to its old stomping grounds, Randall’s Island Park. To commemorate the milestone, EZ will host many of the world’s finest DJs and producers spread out among five stages.
On Thursday, June 20, VICE’s dance music offshoot, THUMP presented UP NEXT, a big brouhaha celebrating all things electronic. Taking place at Pier 84, Hudson River Park, the event featured DJ sets from Zedd, Duke Dumont, and TOKiMONSTA. Meanwhile, people set off their own fireworks interactively. On Wednesday, June 26, 2013, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). It ruled that the proposition, which attempted to define a married couple as man and woman, is a violation of the rights of married gay couples. This is a truly historic process and resolution, as it was the first time the high court ever held a discourse to this extent over gay civil rights. Likewise, Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in California, was overturned.
