Fast rising production star Apollo Brown and the legendary OC debuted their new album “Trophies” a week early on itunes (the official wide release is May 1st). The project is one of the most anticipated of the year and has garnered high praise from DJ Premier all the way to Dame Dash. The record is 16 raw tracks with no guest features and 3 verses per song – no frills, just beats and rhymes. To kick things off Apollo & OC are giving away the single “People’s Champ.”

On May 8th, the legendary Showbiz & AG of the DITC crew will be releasing their FREE album “Mug Shot Music Pre-Loaded.” The free album features some tracks leaked previously by DJ Premier as well as new exclusive music fans haven’t heard before. All of this is to set up their upcoming retail album “Mug Shot Music” that will drop later this summer.

Dashah and DJ Pause better known as Fresh Vetz, release the video and song for “Cigar Break“. The track appears on their latest album, “Fresh 2 Def,” which was named one of the top albums of 2011 by the legendary DJ Premier. The video was filmed at OK Cigars in Soho, NYC. Video was shot and edited by Charles A. Lamour and his crew “Gold Street Collective”

We might be nicely settled into 2012, but that doesn’t mean there’s not room for one more Best of 2011 list, especially when that list comes from DJ Premier.
