Goodbye Guitar Hero – Goodbye DJ Hero (Video)

Yesterday, Activision has announced that they will discontinue production of the Guitar Hero series and DJ hero series.

Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing’s DJ Hero business unit and discontinue development on its DJ Hero game for 2011.These decisions are based on the desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world’s best interactive entertainment experiences. The announcement of Guitar Hero being axed doesn’t really come to any surprised as their last few games (”Guitar Hero 5;” Warriors of Rock”) have not been as exciting as their earlier games (and yes, that’s even with the DLC); but I’m surprised that DJ Hero is being spun out of production. Deadmau5 Choosen For VMAs and DJ Hero 2

Now for some good news from the Deadmau5 camp following the exhaustion episode from earlier this month. Everyone’s favorite raving rodent has been selected to be the “house band” for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. The superstar electronic music producer will play exclusive remixes of other artists—presumably those nominated for awards. The show will air live on Sunday, Sept. 12th.

Deadmau5 has also been elevated to the status of in-game character in the latest update to Activision’s DJ Hero franchise, smartly titled DJ Hero 2. Jump for a first look at the in-game character.

Open Letter Enrages Some Downloaders 

Earlier this week, we posted a open letter from DJ Shadow that effectively told off all downloaders. Obviously, this cause quite a stir for fans and foes of the “37-YEAR OLD TECHNOPHOBE.” You can spend several hours contemplating the eight pages of comments on DJShadow.com, or check out this one summary sent via a mass e-mail from Ghostly International artists Adrian Michna:

Next Gen of DJs? There’s an App for That. (Video)

DJ Hero.  Scratch DJ.  Just when you thought, “They can’t make anymore DJ-emulating devices,” they pull you right back in with Touch DJ, the new iPhone app from Amidio.  It’s kind of surprising how many features the app has, according to the promo footage above but I’d like to get a DJ’s opinion to this fun app.
