Interview :: Claude VonStroke vs. Justin Martin

In today’s dance music world, it seems like every label is it’s own posse; releasing records, playing parties and overall just hanging tough while traveling the globe. San Francisco house-heads dirtybird Records is no exception. While the group of Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin, Christian Martin, Worthy and J Phlip might not be the first dance music collective to come out of the Bay Area (what up Wicked Crew!), they are certainly the most visible in 2012.

2012 also marks the release of Justin’s debut LP, Ghettos & Gardens, which is chocked full of the sort of fun and quirky house tunes db is best known for. We thought it would be cool to ask his label-mate/partner-in-crime Claude VonStroke to ask Justin a few questions about his new album, but like all friendships, what could have been a one-sided conversation turned into an even and interesting exchange. …MORE

Dirtybird Announces ‘Hatched’ World Tour

Huge line-up includes Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin, Julio Bashmore, and more. 

To celebrate ten years of ‘culinary outdoor antics,’ Dirtybird has announced a nine-date world tour to take place this Spring. The label was born out of the now-legendary Golden Gate BBQs hosted in San Francisco by the four original Dirtybird members: Christian Martin, Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin and Worthy. The tour, presented by Point Blank, also celebrates the launch of the three-part Hatched CD compilation (check out the past two parts here). Having the simple philosophy of bringing smiles to the dancefloor has served Dirtybird well over the years, as label ringleader VonStroke has credit for discovering the gem Julio Bashmore among many others who are set to join the tour.

The tour line-up varies by city, the most impressive of which being in London over the Easter weekend. It’s a 15-hour party with one of their signature barbeques, featuring the largest number of Dirtybird artists ever assembled: Claude VonStroke, Julio Bashmore, Justin Martin, J Phlip, Catz n Dogz, Breach, Eats Everything, Tom Flynn, French Fries, A1 Bassline, Sacha Robotti, & Worthy. Follow the jump for a full list of tour dates and line-ups, along with the official flyer:

Before he moved to San Francisco and started his world-famous Dirtybird crew, Claude Von Stroke was just another kid from Detroit, discovering the city’s techno roots at raves around the city, and at the earliest DEMF techno festivals. Now, Von Stroke has now the played the fest himself and telling us who has him excited on the line-up in 2011.

URB Presents: J.Phlip (Exclusive Mix) (MP3)

The calm before her European storm starts here with a hell of a mix. 

After some craziness in the URB underworld, we are finally able to share this gem of a mix, provided by Dirtybird staple J.Phlip. Most people know her from her tunes and remixed released on the label, but don’t let that be the sole source of audible judgement; the lady packs a bass-heavy punch with her mixes. Smooth, housey, and street all at once, this mix goes between jazzy tones to Dirty South samples, maintaining a flow that makes it hard not to dance. Embarking on a tour all over Europe in the next few days, this is your chance to hear a preview of what could come to a town near you when she gets on deck.
