Diplo, Skrillex & A-Trak 3-Way Interview (Video)

Superstar DJ Trio Promise A Collaboration

DJs Diplo, Skrillex and A-Trak are on the cover of this week’s Billboard Magazine, the music industry’s biggest trade paper. Hardly surprising given dance music’s current overwhelming popularity in America. The three sat down for an interview during the cover shoot and bonded over playing festivals, running their own labels and a love of Twitter. They also promise a collaboration.

Of course, it’s hard not to look at the new Billboard cover and recall back to a cover of URB from 2006.

Diplo Disses Coachella

Diplo and his #1 homie Tiësto backstage at Coachella.

We’ve lost track of how many times Diplo has appeared on the Coachella stage over the year, first as tour DJ for M.I.A. in 2006, and at least once with his own act, Major Lazer. Throw in at least one solo DJ set in 2008, and you’d think he’d be a pretty big fan of the annual festival. Apparently he’s a bigger fan of talking trash on Twitter, like he did yesterday when he tweeted: “

“Maybe I’m just throwing shade but ‘Coachsmella’ looks pretty lame this year. You used to be a place to check out new bands/music.

“Besides Snoop and Dre that’s boss shit right there. Its like bootleg Ultra with a few bands that are safe.”

The tweet has been deleted, but what do you think? Is “Coachsmella” not cool anymore because Diplo said so? …MORE

Major Lazer :: “Original Don” (MP3)

The most interesting thing about this new track from Major Lazer is the constantly shifting beat, which hopscotches between stadium fist-pumping techno, baby elephant walk polka and booty-dropping dancehall every 16 bars. The song, which made it’s debut on Zane Lowe’s BBC 1 show this weekend, lacks the hooks that made us love the first Major Lazer record. But it gives an indication that messieurs Switch and Diplo might have some new tricks up their sleeve when the follow-up drops sometime soon.
