From her earliest years DJing around the Detroit rave scene, to a decade spent rising to the top of the international DJ circuit with Richie Hawtin‘s Minus label and her new label Items & Things with long-time collaborators Marc Houle and Troy Pierce, Poland-born, Detroit-bred and Bertlin-based DJ Magdahas always had a special ear for new sounds to move the dance floor. URB caught up with Magda before her gig opening up for Hawtin’s Plastikman Live 1.5 performance at ADE. …MORE

Last fall, it was announced that Ma Dukes would be assembling a posthumous album release by her son, J Dilla, featuring unheard beats and a collection of Detroit rappers. Almost half a year later, we get to hear the first bit from the album, titled The Rebirth of Detroit. The song, “Detroit Madness” features frequent Dilla associate Phat Kat. The snippet is two minutes long, which consider the average length of many of Dilla’s greatest tunes, might as well be a full track.

Two things we don’t talk so much about here at URB are Jack White (too rock) and Insane Clown Posse (too ridiculous). But who are we to deny this ultimate meme when the Motor City’s biggest musical exports get together to record a Mozart-themed tune with a title that apparently translates to “Lick Me In The Arse.”
The tune, titled “Leck Mich Im Arsch,” features garage-rockers JEFF the Brotherhood as backing band, playing over a sample of what we assume to be Mozart music, and White doing god-knows-what and probably laughing his ass off. The tune will be released Sept. 13th on White’s Third Man Records and is certain to go down in “what the hell was that” history.

There’s not much to say, but a lot to hear in regards to this edition of BURNIN’ UP. Mystery shrouds the person we’ve picked to give us an exclusive mix; we don’t even have a real picture of his face. Gerry Read, simply put (with limited information), is a 18-year old producer/multi-instrumentalist who creates chop-shop house and techno relics with familiar Midwestern flair. The kicker is that the kid is from the UK. With a fresh release on RAMP Recordings sub-label Fourth Wave, as well as remix on Ben Westbeech’s “Something For The Weekend”, I’d say Gerry is doing quite well for himself in his early artistic career. Blessed we are, for having him giving us this fantastic mix. Check out the tracklist and download link after the jump.
