The basis of the lawsuit is that Beatport has been leveraging its considerable power and influence on the electronic music scene to “coerce” DJs into playing only at Beta for Denver gigs. The suit suggests that if DJs want full support from Beatport in terms of promotion they must to agree to play Beta exclusively. Specific cases include DJ Rap who it’s alleged was told by Roulier via her agents that her two labels would be pulled from Beatport if she were to play elsewhere in Denver, despite her apparently favouring a gig at the Church. Other artists named in the suit include Deadmau5, Sasha, Christopher Lawrence and DJ Dan. …MORE
In the newest episode of “URB Presents,” I got a chance to talk to Atlantic/Big Beat/Mau5trap recording artist Skrillex. Coming off a sold-out tour with Deadmau5, Beatport’s current #1 artist is having a great year. Check out the video below, where we discuss the state of Dubstep, Skrillex’s musical beginnings and how he linked up with everybody’s favorite Mau5.
Deadmau5 is currently in the process of taking over New York via a 3-night, sold-out stint at Roseland Ballroom. The electro dance juggernaut’s opening slots have so far been held by quite an impressive group of artists, including Kaskade, Die Antwoord, and Calvin Harris. Amongst these big names is (relatively) newcomer Skrillex, who currently is blazing up the Beatport charts with his new EP, “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites.” Skrillex was given the difficult, oftentimes failed challenge of spinning for a crowd that was still growing, as his set began right as the bulk of the Mau5 fans began to slowly (but surely) show up. However, Skrillex remained …
You may know Sonny Moore, aka Skrillex, (signed with Mau5trip, the label imprint that belongs to electronic juggernaut Deadmau5, who he is currently on tour with) best for his official remixes of tracks by Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas and La Roux. Or you may not know him at all— but you should. The 22 year old’s impressive, purposefully over-the-top production can totally hold its own amongst genre heavyweights like Rusko and Bassnectar.

As you may have seen/heard at the VMAs, Deadmau5 and Robyn unveiled a dub remix of “Dancing On My Own” only to get cut off for commercials and then a large void was left in my coal heart. I researched, slept, researched and waited until I finally found what seems to be a rip of the performance. Regardless, I saw no news of an upcoming release. This remix is so beautiful! So Deadmau5 please, please I beg of you to release this remix. xoxo – Jorge
