Moby, De La, Santogold to Play Manifest Hope:DC

The Manifest Hope: DC Gallery Opening and Private Press Viewing is this Friday, the 16th, from 6-9PM. It is a celebration of artwork from people who use this to express their own voice in grass roots progressive movement. All the proceeds from purchased art will go to the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. The art was carefully chosen by such judges as Spike Lee and Shepard Fairey, who will help host the event.

But wait…don’t stop there…the following Monday a special invite-only party will be held after the Inauguration, featurning URB fav’s Santogold, De La Soul, and Moby. The party is hosted by moveon.org, SEIU, OBEY/Giant, Shepard Fairey, Rasario Dawson, Michael Stipe and Heather Graham. Rock the Bells Rocks Diabetes Awareness

Starting Dec 1st and ending Dec 15th, Rock the Bells and partner Hip Hop Official will auction off memorabilia from the 2008 Rock the Bells tour. The proceeds will go towards research and help for the disease of diabetes. Such memorabilia includes Rock the Bells skate decks signed by Nas, Mos Def, De La Soul, Tribe, and more. Also sneakers from Wale and Supernatural, and other great gifts. You can go here to get more info and find out how to get involved. Contributions will also go towards J Dilla, Jheryl Busby of Motown Records, and tributes Phife Dawg from Tribe. URB encourages all of you to join in and help out. A ‘Beautiful Day’ with U-N-I

Inglewood, CA’s very own Thurzday and YO! of U-N-I have well-established themselves in the hip-hop scene of Los Angeles. However, don’t be fooled…they’re music isn’t “gangster rap,” “hipster rap,” or any other “____ rap” category you can fit them into. URB: What does U-N-I stand for and how did you come up with the name?
YO!: The name “U-N-I” came from [The Roots'] Illadelph Halflife album. We use it as a first person statement, “You” as in Thurz & “I” as in myself.
Thurz: The song is “UNIverse at War” featuring Common. We also see our name as an ideology of being boundless and not boxed into one sound.
